The results are out for the Oscar 2018 nominations! Click here to find out who’s been nominated.

Amongst the nominees is The Silent Child film, starring Maisie Sly, who is deaf, and former Hollyoaks actress Rachel Shenton, who is also the Patron of Deaffest. The film has been nominated for Best Live Action Short Film.

The Silent Child, directed by Chris Overton and written by Rachel Shenton, focuses on a four-year-old girl called Libby who lives in a silent world until a social worker enters her life and teaches her the gift of communication (www.thesilentchildmovie.com). Our very own Zebra Uno Director Marilyn Willrich and Communication Support Worker Zeranna Bueno Del Carpio made an appearance in The Silent Child!

We had the pleasure of interviewing Rachel in December 2016 about her life, her role as Deaffest’s Patron as well as The Silent Child film. You can view the interview below:

The interview was screened exclusively at Deaffest 2017.

We are ecstatic about the news! Huge congratulations to The Silent Child team and the other nominees. The 90th Academy Awards will air this March – all the best to the nominees!
