On April 19th, Jack Smallwood, one of Zebra’s latest employees, had the honours of receiving the ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award from the Sign Language Society (SLS) at their joint with Student Enabling Centre’s (SEC) 20th Anniversary Reunion Ball.

The SEC was set up to support all university students with disabilities, it was formerly known as Communication Support Unit (CSU).  They joined with the university’s Sign Language Society members to celebrate the occasion at Wolverhampton Molineux.

The committee from SLS and the SEC said “Jack received the ‘Lifetime Achievement’ because without him it wouldn’t have been as successful as it is today.  He is continuously giving encouragement to students and one staff member said ‘he has been one of our many successful stories and we have really enjoyed working with him’.  He is well known by the university deaf community including Sign Language Interpreters and with everything that’s been said and done, I really can’t think of anyone better for this award.”

Jack was also a loyal committee member of the SLS during his study at the university and Jack says “I’m lost for signs!  I’m shocked but at the same time feel very honoured for the support and recognition from other students.  I would like to say thank you to the committee members for choosing me for this award, I feel very privileged“.

Huge congratulations to Jack!
