The short film ‘Firefly’, where Zebra Uno’s Marilyn Willrich worked as the BSL consultant, has been making waves at film festivals across the country – earning accolades and winning awards!

Released in 2023, the film tells the story of “A young deaf who is deaf, living in a Cornish fishing village with her dad and Grandad sees her life change drastically when her dad remarries and goes to work on an oil rig, leaving her with an increasing abusive stepmother.”

Marilyn, as the BSL consultant, played an important role in ensuring the authenticity of the sign language by guiding the translation and interpretation throughout the production.

‘Firefly’ has picked up notable awards, including Best North West Short at the Manchester Film Festival, the Audience Award at the Cornwall Film Festival, and Best in Festival at the Mansfield Film Festival.
