Zebra Uno Productions has been commissioned by Creative Black Country in partnership with Zebra Access CIO, and in collaboration with Birmingham 2022, to produce short clips for the Birmingham 2022 Festival’s Live Site.

In celebration of the Commonwealth Games 2022, and the variety of sporting activities the Games have to offer, Zebra Uno is proud to present two clips ‘Sport’ and ‘Medal,’ performed by VV Artist Ishtiaq Hussain.

To see such a unique form of creative visual art, a VV performance, prominently screened at this prestigious event, gives the Deaf community such great joy and pride. This is the perfect vehicle by which to increase visibility and raise awareness of VV, without the use of signs and words, and to show its echoing beauty on the big screen.” – Nikki Stratton, Co-Director of Zebra Uno

VV is a form of physical theatre performed by deaf artists in an entirely visual manner. It is an art form consisting of using the body, hand shapes and facial expressions, without using signs and words especially British Sign Language.

Inviting you to explore the themes through Ishtiaq’s creative storytelling, the clips will be exclusively shown at the Victoria Square Festival on Monday 1st August at 4.30pm. We hope visitors from the West Midlands and beyond can come and witness the unique clips, produced by deaf people, on the screen and celebrate the culture and creativity within Birmingham 2022 and the Commonwealth Games.

The clips may be shown at other Live Sites, but we will keep you updated on dates and locations via our social media platforms.
