Deaf Awareness Training

As part of complying with the Disability Discrimination Act, this training involves teaching about the variety of Deafness and communication methods with various types of hearing impairments. I.e. a hard of hearing person may rely on speech/lip-reading alone, whereas others may rely on Sign language etc. We also discuss the issue of "How to communicate with a Deaf person without appearing too patronising or too apprehensive".

At the end of the training session all candidates should be able to understand Deafness and the types of communication methods available. As well as communication methods, candidates should appear more confident and aware with Deaf people in the workplace and in social surroundings. We will develop candidates’ knowledge about specific environmental aids available for Deaf staff and define a variety of communication aids in the workplace, i.e. BSL interpreter and other devices.

Zebra Uno will award certificates to all candidates on the course.
